I am Barbie.

I am perfect. I have a perfect life. Everything is perfect, like I lived in a Barbie dream. At least at a first glance.

I am a perfect student. I am always the best, I have top grades and scores. I am a perfect daughter. I have never caused any problems. I am always responsible and self-sufficient. I am a daughter every parent would want.

Just perfect. Just like Barbie. I am her. Ever since I can remember, I've been obsessed with being perfect. I have to be perfect all the time. This unhealthy obsession led me to achieving so much. Eventually, it brought me to the breakdown. Two years ago, my perfect world collapsed. I got depressed. After sixteen years of being perfect, my own brain decided that being perfect isn't enough to be happy. My perfection led into emptiness inside me. Nearly two years later, I still can't manage to rebuild everything depression ruined in my life.

My story is just the Barbie's story. I am her. And I understand her story more than you can imagine.

What is Barbie: Dreamscape by Alex Aster about?

Based on the most widely-known doll, the newest ‘Barbie’ novel is told to be the beginning of the new era in the ‘Barbie’ franchise.

Barbie is a perfect girl. A perfect student and a perfect adopted daughter.

However, all of her life seems ruined when she is marked as the Fate-less. The mysterious Fates choose what path one should follow. Because everybody in Heartland has a suitable Fate at the end of the school, Barbie suddenly becomes an outcast from an icon. Treated as an anomaly, Barbie decides to leave home and embark on a journey to find the Fates and ask them in person about her Fate. Little does she know how life-changing consequences this expedition will have.

Barbie: Dreamscape isn't for Everyone

I am aware that the Barbie novel isn’t anything special. That it isn’t innovative in any way. And that review is deeply subjective and biased because of my personal experiences. But you know what? I really don’t care. Because this is the story of me and Barbie. And probably some of you, too. The story about the self-destructive.

Thus, ‘Barbie: Dreamscape’ is a book almost painfully familiar. It touches me to the deepest core. As I said, she lives my story. And I really couldn’t care less about those lame Barbie’s adventures.

This is my personal story
...Even though this book alone Sucks

You can’t deny, the action in ‘Barbie: Dreamscape’ book is so poor and predictable it’s almost pathetic. I can’t act like this book is perfect, because it isn’t even good for a normal, outside reader. It would be another mid usage of the popular franchise even for me. But I am who I am - I am Barbie - and I know her story by heart. I know how it is to feel this inner pressure to be perfect all the time. I know how it is to feel not good enough all the time. And if you aren’t Barbie, you probably aren’t going to appreciate ‘Barbie: Dreamscape’.

But that's okay. Because the less people feel like Barbie, the more feel happy.
